Follow the Light

Hello, hello, we are in the middle of eclipse season and the most intense month of 2025.

Breathe with me. I mean it, stop, take a breath in deeply, hold it…now exhale completely

(3 to 5 of these breaths would be better but even one will make a difference).

Years ago, I heard Dr Zach Bush, who was a doctor at both ends of the spectrum from obstetrics to palliative care say that he was surprised at how similar birth and death are.

But how society venerates birth and avoids death.

I am paraphrasing as it was years ago, but it stuck with me and it is something I have thought deeply on for some time and I can think of no better analogy than that to describe the current energy shift

from Pisces to Aries.

Death and Birth

Sarah is torn, her daughter Jess is in labor, having the home birth of her dreams, in her family home and Sarah does not want to miss

ree

a moment of her daughter’s birth into motherhood and hers into becoming a grandmother.

She wants to be right there when her granddaughter takes her first breath.

But down the hall her mother Mable is dying.

ree

This truly is the life of her dreams. She always wanted to create a home where everyone was welcome, could come and go as they please and she created just that.

She also always believed in being there in whatever way she could through the big and small things for the people she loves.

Sarah is a nurse; she loves the miracle of birth.

She is not afraid of death; it is a natural process and she knows it can be a beautiful thing if we let it. Grief and grace, such a mix of emotions.

But as her daughters’ primal screams get more guttural and her instinct tells her the time is near, she sees her mother become almost translucent.

Radiant as her soul begins to outshine her dying body.

ree

Mable is no longer talking, and Jess only has space to feel into her body and her baby right now.

Sarah has an idea, but it could be a terrible mistake.

It is what she would like, but how would her mother and daughter feel about it?

Mable has always been such an integral part of Jess’ life, in fact, Jess told Mable she was pregnant first and Mable has not been so happy in years.

Jess has always adored her grandmother; it was like they had a language all of their own.

All three women had fervently hoped that Mable's body would last for her to see her great granddaughter born into this world.

Sarah made the decision, unlocked the wheels of the hospital bed she had hired for her mother and with a mingled excitement and fear of deciding on behalf of her mother and daughter she wheeled Mable down the hall.

ree

It’s time

As she entered the room her mother’s life force ebbing into a deep stillness and silence, while her daughter growled and moaned like a wild animal.

The contrast was momentarily jarring for Sarah and she froze.

Daniel, Jess’ husband looked up, and smiled.

His gentle reassurance even in his own exhaustion after 11hours of being beside his laboring wife acted like a defibrillator and jolted her back into action.

She lowered her mother’s bed to the height of her daughters.

Jess’ eyes wild with pain, and fear, snapped sideways and she saw her mother and grandmother.

A silence descended in the room, followed by a small sob, ‘thank you’ whispered Jess.

Sarah went over to her daughter and stroked her head,

kissed her brow and said,

‘your daughter will be here soon, you are nearly there, dig deep now my love. Granny is here and she will be leaving us soon.

How blessed we are to be together like this.’

ree

Sarah then took Mable's cold papery hand and handed it to her daughter.

Jess clasped Mable's hand so gently in her hot and sweaty one.

‘I love you gran, my life is richer because of you and I will always miss you.’

She tried unsuccessfully to stem the scream of another powerful contraction.

Then as if by magic, Mable who had been uncommunicative for 3 days, opened her eyes and said softly but very clearly,

‘she is beautiful, just like you and your mother, just like me.

I am with her now, we have had our time to bond. I must go; she is coming. We are both following the light, on opposite sides of the tunnel.’

And just like that Mable exhaled her last breath.

Silence again deafened the room.

Grief was like a grey mist; it was as if none of them could breathe in again.

Sarah, again wondered, ‘what have I done?’

ree

Then Jess’ babe kicked her body into gear and with one last howl and deep purging push, her baby was born.

Tears of joy flooded the room, yellow and pink light seemed to shine through the grey mist as baby added her voice to the world.

Follow the light

I hope in this little story I wrote you can truly feel the energy that we are in.

It is so new and unknown for each of these characters, they are each very much in their own experience and in a collective one.

The birth canal is a tunnel and the baby comes out into the light.

Those who recall NDE (near death experiences) often talk about a tunnel and having a choice to walk into the light.

ree

That feeling of Mable transitioning to the light after her human life, and the baby transitioning to the light to begin her human life and them getting to meet in the tunnel.

Each of them being magnetically pulled in opposite directions but able to connect in the liminal space.

This is where we are, in the death/birth canal.

It is sad, scary, exciting, happy, unknown and familiar all at once.

Each of us needing to be very present to all the parts of our current experience, even the ones we don’t like.

Being accountable for our choices, grieving our losses, birthing our new stories, listening to our hearts.

I have channeled a new tool for my healing practice and am actively doing ancestral healing now as part of my offering.

So for those called to connect to the wisdom of your ancestors and to heal the wounds of your ancestors to impact the generations to come, please get in touch.
