What if we weren't meant to keep going?

Have you known for a long time that the way we're taught to measure productivity isn't sustainable or healthy for you?

And yet had absolutely no idea how to do things differently?

I know I have.

For almost a decade, I have been learning to unwind the idea that I should always be doing more. That being productive means pushing through. That rest needs to be earned. That if I just organise myself better, try harder, become more disciplined, I will somehow finally find the perfect balance between all the things that need doing.

And I keep discovering that it doesn't quite work that way.

I learn something. I find a new way of being. I breathe a little more deeply and create a little more space.

And then life happens.

I fall back into old patterns. I overcommit. I push through when I'm tired. I find myself caught in the familiar belief that there isn't really time to stop because there is still so much that needs doing.

Perhaps you know that feeling too.

We live in a world that rewards consistency, productivity and constant output. We are encouraged to keep going regardless of how we feel, what our bodies are telling us, or whether we actually have the capacity for what is being asked of us.

And for women, I think this can become particularly complicated.

Our bodies are not static.

Our energy changes.

Our hormones change.

Our emotional landscape changes.

Our needs change throughout our cycles and throughout our lives.

And yet we are often expected to operate as though our capacity is a straight, predictable line.

On top of our work and responsibilities, women so often carry the emotional wellbeing of families, the invisible work of remembering, organising and anticipating, the care of children and homes and relationships.

We are expected to be available, capable, nurturing, productive and resilient.

And somewhere in all of that, we can lose the ability to ask a very simple question:

How am I actually doing?

Sometimes it feels easier just to keep going.

Because if we stop, what happens?

Who will do everything?

And so we keep going until our bodies, our minds or our circumstances eventually make the decision for us.

This is one of the reasons I have become so interested in working with the rhythms of the Moon.

Not because I believe we need another system to follow.

Quite the opposite.

The Moon offers us a reminder that we are allowed to move through different phases.

There are times for beginning.

Times for building.

Times for expressing and sharing.

Times for letting go.

And times for doing very little at all.

The invitation isn't to become more productive by following the Moon.

It is to become more attuned.

To pause often enough to notice where you are.

To recognise that your capacity today may not be the same as it was last week.

To ask what is needed now, rather than automatically asking what needs to be done.

And, slowly, to begin unwinding the belief that every phase of our lives needs to look the same.

I am still learning this.

In fact, I have recently found myself meeting this lesson in a rather unexpected place: marketing my own work.

I love creating things.

I love learning, exploring, developing ideas and quietly building things behind the scenes. Give me a new idea and I can disappear into it for days.

But putting those things out into the world?

Asking people to actually see them?

Inviting people to join me?

That's where I hit a wall.

Marketing brings up anxiety for me. It asks me to be visible in a way that can feel surprisingly vulnerable.

And I've realised that this is part of the same work.

Because how can I invite other women to listen to their own inner rhythms while hiding the thing I've created because I'm uncomfortable being visible?

How can I encourage women to take up space, honour their gifts and listen to what they know inside themselves — while quietly keeping my own work tucked away because I'm afraid of being too much, too visible, too salesy?

I don't think the answer is to force myself through the discomfort.

That would simply be another version of the same old pattern.

Instead, I am trying to meet this edge with the same curiosity that I bring to everything else.

What is actually happening here?

Where am I holding myself back?

What old beliefs are being activated?

And what would it look like to move forward without abandoning myself in the process?

Perhaps this is part of why I am creating the Moon Wisdom Membership in the first place.

I wanted to create a gentle way of staying connected to the Moon's rhythm — not because we need another thing to do, but because sometimes we need a reminder to pause, notice where we are, and come back to ourselves.

A reminder that we don't have to be the same person every day.

That our energy is allowed to ebb and flow.

That rest is not failure.

That letting go is part of creating.

That beginning again is not evidence that we got it wrong.

And perhaps, most importantly, that we don't have to figure it all out at once.

We can learn to listen.

We can notice.

We can make small adjustments.

We can begin to recognise our own rhythms.

And we can practise choosing something different, one cycle at a time.

That is the kind of space I want Moon Wisdom to be.

Not another thing on your already-too-long list.

Not another system telling you how you should be.

But eight gentle touchpoints each month,

following the eight phases of the Moon — an invitation to pause, check in with yourself, and notice where you are in your own cycle of becoming.

Because perhaps we were never meant to keep going all the time.

Perhaps we were meant to move with the rhythm.

And perhaps learning that is not another thing we have to achieve.

Perhaps it is something we can slowly remember.

If something in this resonates with you, I'd love to invite you to step through the doorway with me. You can find out more about the Moon Wisdom Membership here.

And if you'd like to see what else I've been creating, I've also given the Rainbow Wisdom website a little refresh. You're very welcome to have a look around.
